Make sure you’re prepared for the first day of School Year 2016-2017! Summer is winding down and we want to make sure you have everything you need for the First Day of School. Use the information below to get ready for School Year 2016-2017!

First Day of School

For Traditional-Year Schools:

The first day of school for K-12 students is Monday, August 22, 2016.

The first day of school for Pre-K3 and Pre-K4 students is Thursday, August 25, 2016.

School Lunch

DCPS offers nutritious, appetizing breakfast and lunch each school day. For more information, visit our website and if applicable, complete a Free and Reduced Meal (FARM) application to be eligible for free or reduced-price lunch by the first day of school.

Most schools offer a light supper or snack to students attending after-school programs, so please check with your child’s school to see what service is available.

For 2016-2017, 84 schools have been certified for community eligibility provision (CEP), so that all students may receive all meals at no cost. DCPS lunch prices at non-CEP schools are $2.60 for elementary students and $3.10 for secondary students.

Prior to the start of school, visit your school with all completed health forms. Go to our website or visit your school directly for all health, dental, and medical administration and accommodation forms.

After School

Learn more about afterschool program options at your school at our website. Note that the start date for afterschool programing varies by school. Please contact your school with questions.
